Auld Lang Syne

December 31 2012

The term, ‘Auld Lang Syne’ is old Scottish for ‘Times Long Past.’ And I’ve never given this song much thought until now. I discovered that it’s a bittersweet poem completed with a mournful melody reminiscing the times of a life gone by. Recalling a feeling of something that wasn’t lost until you went looking for it.

Observant Nomad | Auld Lang Syne

For many reasons that I can’t delve into now, the end of this year is a definitive end of a chapter in my life. It wasn’t planned, it wasn’t believed. It was just another December 31st until the last few weeks events have unfolded. And I find myself relating and drawn to the melodies of ‘Auld Lang Syne.’

I am ready with open arms to let go of 2012 and walk forward into 2013. My auld lang syne have revealed to me where I began, and how much further I can go. All this reminiscing has drawn me into some of my favorite moments from the last year…

+ I started this blog!
+ discovered a new passion collecting old dusty lovelies.
+ found out I was one Tough Mudder!
+ had one of those really good weeks this last Spring.
+ sun. sand. beaches. my man. corona. Need I say more?
+ bought a brand new Canon T3i!
+ got to use my toy camera, La Sardina.
+ spent some sunny days with my old dog before she passed.
+ saw one of my favorite bands in concert – The Black Keys.
+ had a hot weekend water skiing, beer drinking, and floating in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
+ visited San Francisco and fell in love with Chinatown and Alcatraz.
+ won an Interactive Art Director Award!
+ spent a lot of days by the pool. And an afternoon on the black top at the Super Chevy Show.
+ camping along the river in Peaceful Valley.
+ visited the back country of Pennsylvania and had my heart warmed by my guy’s family.
+ had to say goodbye, but not so long to one of my best friends.
+ a warm and nourishing Christmas with both our families.
+ helped my guy move into a big beautiful new home.

Trust me when I say there were so many more moments to love and learn from this last year. And I can’t wait to see what the new year unfolds.

Great list baby. I’ve always loved this poem. It is bittersweet but sometimes we all need a little of that. A wonderful daughter taught me that. Have an amazing 2013 sweetie!
